Maritime Transport Containers
Overview
Special containers for coastal vessels are containers specialized for domestic maritime transport within Japan and possess different characteristics compared to general international maritime containers. They are a crucial element supporting efficiency and safety in domestic sea transport and are gaining attention from the perspectives of modal shift and CO₂ reduction. Demand is expected to increase further as a means to address challenges such as labor shortages and long-distance haulage in trucking.
Features
Applications are diverse, including open-top types with openable roofs and containers for transporting vehicles, industrial waste, incineration ash, scrap, etc.
Since coastal vessels handle domestic transport connecting ports, containers are designed according to Japan's port facilities, vessel structures, and conditions at loading and unloading sites.
Designed to enhance transshipment efficiency, they are premised on coordination with truck transport, playing a role in seamlessly connecting land and sea transport.
